You see them around town wearing shorts that reveal lean, strong legs, fitted shirts over tight abs, and shapely arms that carry a toddler and groceries.
How do these women stay so fit and look so good appearing to defy the effects of aging? Here are a few secrets:
They love movement and the outdoors
Follow fit women and watch them move all day, all year, in all weather. While at the beach it’s swimming, sailing or walking. During a snowfall, there’s shoveling, building snowmen and snowshoeing. They garden, rake leaves and bike to complete errands—anything to get moving and be outside. These ladies rarely sit still-they truly love to move.
They train
“I am training for.......” are the operative words of the super fit. These women enter events, commit to a goal and train for it. Tracy, a busy mom of four, is training for the Chicago Marathon, her first. A group of Wilmette women is training to climb one of the highest peaks in the U.S.
They work hard, and smart
They add intervals, hills, and long workouts to their programs. They may even get a little anxious before a tough workout. They cross train to prevent injuries, boredom and to develop all muscle groups.
They live it
They are consistent with their nutrition and exercise everyday. While on vacation, they tour the sights on foot before the crowds. They enjoy dining out on Saturday night, but make wise food choices and watch portion sizes.
They get it done
Syndy’s house is under construction, so she sweats in a less than ideal gym in her garage. Jennie sends pictures from power walks during volleyball and soccer tournaments. A busy work schedule means a 5:30 a.m. workout for Maggie.
They love and care for their bodies
These women are confident and honor their bodies that have allowed them so much joy through movement. You can see it in how they stand and dress. They practice self-care including yoga, massage and rest to assure that their bodies stay healthy.
They are a bit obsessed
Exercise, being fit and feeling good is addictive. While some may take things too far, for most, being a bit obsessive about fitness is healthy. These women know that a vigorous workout is a sure way to begin a productive, satisfying day.
