There’s a new North Shore contender in the gourmet “quick” food restaurant market, and you’ll find it right in downtown Evanston.
Quick, since you can grab and go with a huge selection of salads, sandwiches, soups and more; and gourmet describes the sophisticated approach to flavors and a commitment to natural ingredients like organic coffee, milk, oatmeal, tea and more. Meats and cheeses are hormone-free, and breads are made without any artificial coloring or flavoring.
And these sandwiches aren’t trucked in from a big commissary somewhere; they are made on-site in the shop’s kitchen. Loved the sandwich selection, and the option of “slim” ½ sandwiches to grab with a cup of soup (especially the bright, peppery Moroccan Lentil soup). The uber-refreshing Spicy Shrimp & Cilantro Wrap and the generous Tuna Nicoise Salad were also favorites. All items are listed with calorie counts so you know where you stand; so helpful when you are trying to make good choices.
The food is always pristinely fresh; there are no expiration dates because whatever’s left at the close of business is donated to The Greater Chicago Food Depository. So this is a place you can feel good about eating, both for you and the community at large.
