Marriott’s unique version of “Shout!” is a colorful and fun-filled musical, featuring 5 female singers and 8 dancers.
Through classic tunes, “Shout!” depicts the coming of age of women in the ‘60s. Favorites like “Downtown,” “Georgy Girl” and “Son of a Preacher Man” depict women moving from objects of men’s desires to liberated women. The talented dancers bring in boatloads of energy in telling the story.
The 5 female characters have distinct personalities that are expressed through their body movements, bright costumes, theatrics and song. Carey Anderson, a Broadway and national touring performer, reflects on her reluctance to move beyond pleasing her man, with songs like “You are my World.” Tammy Mader, a Jeff Award winner, is the flirty party girl who sings “These Boots are Made for Walkin’.”
The show finishes with an engaging version of our all-time favorite, “Shout,” which got the entire audience moving. The combination of awesome ‘60s songs, colorful dresses and a talented cast make “Shout!” a delight. My teenager was enthralled the entire time, and I know my mom would love it, too.
“Shout!” runs 90 minutes with no intermission through August 14 at the Marriott Lincolnshire. For tickets visit Ticketmaster.com or MarriottTheatre.com, or call the box office at 847-634-0200.
