If you love golf and giving back to your community, this is the perfect opportunity for you.
The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) has come up with an easy way to improve your game and raise money for your favorite charity through their Leadership Links program. Junior golfers can choose to participate in Playing fore their Future, Birdies for Charity, Golf-a-thon or general volunteering and pair with charity of their choice. They are expected to meet a fundraising goal, with half of the proceeds going to their charity and half to AJGA's youth development programs.
Fitz Bowen, a senior at New Trier Township High School, used this opportunity to raise money for his charity of choice, New Trier's Special Olympics team. He became involved with the Special Olympics program after being unexpectedly cut from the varsity lacrosse team as a junior. Volunteering at Special Olympics gave him a new focus, "They picked me up when I was down," said Bowen in a press release. By participating in the Birdies for Charity program, Bowen was able to raise $2,400, half of which benefitted Special Olympics. He hope to inspire other athletes to fundraise through AJGA and continue to support local charities.
