This month's picks for people, places and things with which you can make a difference:
Give Time
Sarah’s Circle
773-728-1014 | www.sarahs-circle.org
Give time: Volunteer at the resale shop, Full Circle, located in Glenview.
All the proceeds from Full Circle support Sarah’s Circle. Volunteers at Full Circle handle sales transactions, receive donations and work on “beautifying” the store. Full Circle has a number of friendly volunteers, and they truly need more to help out on a consistent basis, typically we ask a volunteer to commit to a 3-hour shift at least once a week. Training is provided.
If you are interested in volunteering at Full Circle, please contact Katherine J. Ragnar, executive director of Sarah's Circle at 773-728-1014.
Misericordia Heart of Mercy
773-273-4161 | www.misericordia.com
Give time: Make a regular weekly commitment at Misericorida Home or sign up for special event/holiday volunteer opportunities.
The Mission of Misericordia Heart of Mercy is to support individuals with developmental disabilities in maximizing their level of independence and self-determination within an environment that fosters spirituality, dignity, respect and enhancement of quality of life. They promote development of natural family and community support, community awareness, education and advocacy. Misericordia welcomes two types of volunteers, "regular" volunteers and "special event/holiday" volunteers.
Regular volunteers must commit to a minimum 2- to 3-hour commitment per week for at least a 6 to 12 month term. If you are interested in helping Misericordia, however you know that it is unrealistic for you to make a weekly commitment; there are still plenty of opportunities for you to help. These volunteer opportunities normally do not include interaction with our residents. Time commitments vary from 2 to 3 hours to one full day. Just call in advance to sign up.
For more details or to volunteer please contact Theresa Rooney at 773-273-4161 or Mary Doherty at 773-273-4177. You can also e-mail: theresar@misericordia.com.
