Women across the northern suburbs exemplify the idea that those who are blessed have an obligation to help those who are less fortunate, and to make the world a better place.
And, as we learned from interviewing top local women philanthropists, they don’t look at it as a burden—but rather, a thrilling opportunity.
Prue Beidler captured the attitude well, addressing her fellow “cover girls” as they got into position for the photo: “We have to convey that we are here to do business, but also to have fun.”
The accomplishments of these women certainly impress: founding a media company to enhance the work of local not-for-profits; opening a shelter for homeless and abused women; encouraging future teachers and youth workers; running a children’s museum; and endowing a museum wing, a scholarship, and a building, among other things. In diving deep into their passion, we hope they’ll be sources of inspiration to other women who want to make a difference in their communities and beyond.
