Over 300 people joined the Danny Did Foundation for an evening of hearts and hugs at Misericordia.
All had a great time and enjoyed the silent auction as well as the musical stylings of storied pianist Joe Gattone. Illinois Senator Dan Kotowoski, a Danny Did Foundation board member, announced that the Illinois State Senate, per Senate Resolution 0781, recognized May 22 as “Danny Did Day” in the state of Illinois.
The resolution, passed by the Illinois General Assembly as a show of support for the Danny Did Foundation, is intended to raise awareness of Epilepsy in general and of Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) in particular.
The evening also brought to the podium featured speaker Philip M. Gattone, M.Ed, President & CEO of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago, who addressed the issues of Epilepsy in general and of SUDEP in particular. Great thanks to Misericordia, all of our sponsors, guests, and volunteers for making this night as special as Danny himself.
ABOUT DANNY DID: Founded in January 2010 by Mike and Mariann Stanton after the death of their four year-old son Danny, the Danny Did Foundation is dedicated in its mission to prevent deaths caused by seizures.
The Danny Did Foundation serves as a catalyst in the communication vacuum that frequently exists between medical professionals and those afflicted by seizures. The DDF aggressively engages physicians and researchers in the fields of neurology and epileptology, meets with medical technology companies, and consults with epilepsy organizations.
The Danny Did Foundation holds as its main goals (1) the mainstreaming of medical devices for home-use that act as alarm systems for seizure activity and (2) the strengthening of communication regarding Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) between medical professionals and the families and loved ones of those afflicted by seizures.
The Danny Did Foundation is pursuing these goals with this mantra in mind: Example is not the main thing influencing those around you, it is the only thing. Danny’s example to all of us was that Danny Did take his time in life, Danny Did engage others in his life, and Danny Did enjoy his life. Danny Did, and we can—and will—through time, people, and passion fight to prevent deaths caused by seizures.
