New Trier High School students showed their holiday spirit this week by braving cold temperatures to pack a truck full of food, gifts, toys, and clothing as part of the school’s annual Adopt-A-Family initiative.
New Trier students in dozens of adviser rooms and other student groups raised funds and collected gifts for 60 “adopted” families from Northwestern University Settlement on Chicago’s West Side to help out during the holiday season.
Midwest Moving and Storage, Inc. of Elk Grove Village donated a truck, driver and 600 boxes to help New Trier in its efforts. Midwest Moving, in partnership with Move for Hunger, picks up donations of nonperishable foods year-round for local food pantries from people who are moving from their homes. From Dec. 7-9, student volunteers loaded the truck for delivery to the families.
Northwestern University Settlement serves approximately 8,000 low-income individuals each year. For more information on the organization, visit nush.org.
