Wilmette resident Kira Arney, was just 13 when she passed away from a malignant brain tumor. Since her death, a fund has been created to honor her life and provide funding for brain cancer research. The Kira Arney Fund goes to support the Falk Brain Tumor Center at Children's Memorial Hospital, which sees more children with brain tumors than any other hospital in the Midwest. There, they are committed to participating in innovative investigations and treatment protocols for children suffering from brain tumors. Nationally, less than 3% of all government-funded cancer research dollars goes to pediatrics, and unfortunately only a small percentage of that funding is used for brain tumor research.
